The Carousel is a memory lane Cafe and Classic Confectioner, the name and galloping horse in the window reflect Tewkesbury's heritage historically manufacturing carousel rides until 1925, some still in use today (see further down).
Nicki and Stuart Yapp take great pride in providing handmade English confectionery including luxury chocolates from Belgium (a gift wrap service is available) and the Cafe.
This includes serving a variety of quality loose and bagged teas, in bone china teapots cups and saucers, specialty coffees, chilled soft drinks and milkshakes made with gluten free farmhouse ice-cream and some very tempting homemade tray bakes and scones.
The Carousel is an independent traditional Sweetshop, Ice-cream and Tea Parlour. Being family run it has all the benefits of not being a chain outlet, great variety and choice.
The Carousel also stocks Northern Tea merchants loose and bagged teas and can also offer a selection of Kitchen Garden Jams, Chutneys, Pickles and Mustards.
Car Parking is available on street (1 hour) and a short walk away, please look for car park signs near The Carousel or click the button above to view the Location Map.
The Carousel Heritage
While others claim to have invented the Carousel Ride 7 years before the 'Thomas Walker & Sons' business started, it was Tewkesbury's Thomas Walker who invented the galloping horse mechanism being granted a patent in 1887. More about Thomas Walker at Tewkesbury Museum, click following button.
Walkers Carousel Rides are still heralded as 'truly magnificent sets of gallopers' by the Steam Museum, click following button.
